Tears On Denim is the soundtrack to your 1985 prom and a never ending poolside afterparty straight out of a John Hughes film. California palm are trees thrown into an east coast bonfire while everyone remembers who kept the embers glowing until dawn. Tears On Denim is David Drouin (vocals, bass, lead guitar), Aaron Zaroulis (vocals, drums) and Alice Austin (vocals, guitar).
Alice Austin, renowned front woman of the internationally acclaimed Black Sabbitch and a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, joined forces with the Boston based duo David Drouin and Aaron Zaroulis in 2021. Together they created 4 full length albums and multiple singles before realizing they were a band. Drouin and Zaroulis of The Brew, Cold Engines and Soul Rebel Project (VPAL Records) have been riding the wave of international success with 2 top 20 terrestrial radio hits, awards handed down from Madison Square Garden to their home in Boston, all while sharing stages with the world's top tier musicians. They have been seen playing with The Black Keys, Trombone Shorty, Los Lobos, Bruce Hornsby and many more as they tour the world. Alice Austin has forged a dominant presence from her home in Los Angeles to the international scene as she supports legends like Billy Idol, Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop, and Danzig. In 2022, she played on Kiss Kruise 11, featuring KISS themselves, Stryper, Vixen, and Sebastian Bach.
The combined powers of Tears on Denim exude a rockified, retro-futuristic romance reminiscent of Bladerunner meets Dirty Dancing. The synergistic blend of influences that the band shares is a unique and focused vision. Austin brings her lifelong love for all things rock, adding fuel to the fire of Tears on Denim. With eight studio albums as a solo indie chanteuse under her belt, she has explored various genres ranging from soft rock to garage rock, retro synth pop, and dark acoustic brooding. Her vocal style is unapologetically Alice Austin. Combined with Drouin in perfect harmony, they create a singular voice that is purely Tears On Denim.
The telepathic sense of musicality Between Drouin and Zaroulis that has evolved over years of live performance, creative collaboration, and studio recording is absolutely infectious. Their kinship is unbreakable and their combined ethos is “all hooks all the time”.
The true rockers recently hit the ground sprinting with Boston’s The Brew releasing 8 records and joining the Agency Group as they traversed the globe. This quickly evolved into the refined band Cold Engines and a prolific run of 13 more albums in half as many years. Song Of The Year, Album Of The Year and New Artist of The Year along with 3 wins as Band Of The Year prove the industry has taken notice. Their songwriting and obsession with greatness have led them to tour with the founding member of the Grateful Dead’s Bill Kreutzmann, Blue Oyster Cult, The B-52s and play nearly every major festival in the U.S and many abroad.
Although continued success and passion has been at the heart of all three musicians' drive for expression, the combination of their talents has proven to be the magic bullet in this fresh supergroup Tears On Denim.
A compelled decision to embrace the early 80s party vibe, and a strong dose of glam rock in the vein of T-Rex and Bowie have swiftly shaped a recognizable sound that’s both familiar yet entirely its own.
The band was forged in the heat of a chance vocal feature from Austin on the Cold Engines track One Of Us Now, reaching 100k streams in just a couple months. The collaboration between Drouin, Austin, Zaroulis, and mixing/mastering engineer Timothy Phillips has now gained unstoppable momentum. Having already worked together for the last year and a half on 40 plus songs, it was only natural to form a melodic all-star rock band that showcases the rich harmonizing vocals and writing prowess of Austin and Drouin set to the world class grooves of Zaroulis.
The raw vulnerability and passion intrenched into each song transcends genres, and has been described in reviews and by fans as cinematic and moving.
Drouin, Austin and Zaroulis showcased their versatility on 3 Records released under Austin’s name in the last 18 months alone. At the helm of all projects involving Drouin, Zaroulis, and Austin is the Grammy-nominated Mixing Engineer, Timothy Phillips who polishes the songs into unforgettable sonics in Manhattan’s legendary studio, Mercy Sound. Phillips has become an essential part of the Tears On Denim rise from its veiled inception to its fully fleshed out self titled debut due in the summer breezes of 2024., Tears On Denim aspires to be both your nostalgia-frosted party cake and a strong shoulder to lean on. Their songs explore themes of youthful romantic longing, frustration with the digital world, partying, and, of course, existential angst.
Living by a Tom Petty’s quote, “Rock and roll can save the world”, Tears on Denim stays true to creating the feelings of power and freedom as they invite you into the party and the unknown of the open road.
